IM Known Reflection Method™

A guided visual reflection process that helps people slow down, notice their inner experience, and reconnect with the present moment.

Large-scale photographic artwork paired with structured reflection prompts helps individuals pause, reflect, and enter conversations with greater clarity and presence.

Designed for use in clinical, educational, and community settings, from therapy spaces to classrooms and group programs.

Artist Stéphane Alexis developed the IM Known Reflection Method™ as part of his broader work exploring emotional experience through visual storytelling.

While the method is not a clinical therapy model, the reflection prompts were reviewed for safety by a registered psychotherapist and designed to align with trauma-informed principles.

Why It Exists

Meaningful reflections rarely begin the moment a session or conversation starts.

Many people arrive distracted, anxious, or unsure how to put their internal experience into words.

Clinicians, educators, and facilitators often spend valuable time helping individuals settle before deeper dialogue can unfold.

The IM Known Reflection Method™ introduces a quiet, structured entry point into that process.

Through visual storytelling and guided prompts, it creates space for individuals to pause, observe their internal responses, and gradually move toward greater awareness and clarity.

The method pairs large-scale photographic artwork with thoughtfully designed reflection prompts.

Each piece invites individuals to slow down, observe visual details, and consider gentle questions connected to emotion, identity, and lived experience.

The system may include:

  • Large-format photographic works

  • Discreet reflection cards or prompts

  • Optional guided reflection support

  • A simple orientation guide for facilitators or clinicians

The goal is simple: create a moment of reflection that helps individuals approach conversations with greater presence and awareness.

What It Is

Visual imagery can create a sense of distance that makes reflection easier.

Instead of asking someone to immediately explain how they feel, the artwork invites observation first. Structured prompts then guide viewers to notice thoughts, emotions, or bodily responses that may arise while engaging with the image.

This shift from observing before explaining can help individuals move away from rumination and toward grounded awareness.

The process emphasizes curiosity rather than interpretation, allowing people to engage at their own pace without pressure to analyze or resolve what they notice.

Why It Works

Organizations integrate the reflection works into spaces where people naturally pause, such as waiting areas, transitional spaces, or learning environments.

Individuals engage voluntarily for a few minutes before or after conversations.

The reflections can also be used within sessions or group settings as guided prompts for dialogue.

Because participation is optional and open-ended, the method supports reflection without forcing vulnerability or adding burden to facilitators.

How It’s Used

Where It Works

The method was developed with therapeutic environments in mind, but it adapts naturally to other reflective spaces.

Common settings include:

  • Therapy clinics

  • Youth and family support programs

  • Schools and educational programs

  • Community organizations

  • Wellness-oriented workplaces

Wherever people benefit from moments of pause and reflection, the method can support deeper engagement.
